Selections taken from "Poems Under the Sun," A collection of original poems

The shovel digs and does not weep

(Dig, shovel, dig)

Six feet long and six feet deep

(Dig, shovel, dig)

The shovel is an eager tool

(Dig, shovel, dig)

Digging both for wise and fool

(Dig, shovel, dig)

The shovel digs and when digging’s done

(Dig, shovel, dig)

Thrusts in blade and digs another one

(Dig, shovel, dig)

The shovel digs but it covers, too,

(Dig, shovel, dig)

And one day it will dig, then cover you

(Dig, shovel, dig)

(Shovel)
